June is National Camping Month and a great time to start planning a vacation that will keep you active all week—or weekend—long. But just in case the thought of spending time in the wilderness makes you cringe (catching dinner in a stream, no Facebook…no thanks), we’ve rounded up some twenty-first century camping essentials that might change your mind about adventuring in the great outdoors.

KIND Nut and Spice Bars ($2, kindsnacks.com): Four new flavors of KIND bars hit the shelves this month and they’re all delicious (trust us, we tried ‘em). Whether you pick Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan, Madagascar Vanilla Almond, Cashew & Ginger Spice, or Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt (a perfect mix of salty and sweet), you’ll get an approximately 200-calorie snack with 5 g of sugar or less plus at least 5 g each of protein and fiber.

Voltaic OffGrid Solar Backpack ($229, voltaicsystems.com): In addition to giving you 1,500 cubic inches of space to store your stuff, this backpack features a removable solar pocket that can be used to charge your smartphone, iPod, or digital camera—no matter how far away from civilization you roam. One hour in the sun equals three hours of talk time on your iPhone.

Dry Dudz Hybrid Shorts ($85 for women, $95 for men, drydudz.com): Camping trips are all about packing light, so don’t forget to tuck a pair of do-it-all Dry Dudz shorts into your bag. The bathing suit bottoms and active shorts in-one transition from a morning swim to an afternoon hike to an evening cookout with no fuss.

Coleman 54-Quart Stainless Steel Belted Cooler ($160, coleman.com): An upgrade from the blue and red plastic coolers of camping trips past, this high-tech tub is rust-proof, has enough space for 85 cans, and keeps ice for up to three days in temperatures up to 100° F.
