A Sprinter's Secret: Staying Fit Off the Field
In the early 2000s, Consuella “Connie” Moore was at the top of her game. As a 100m and 200m sprinter at Penn State University, she earned Big 10 Conference wins as well as top-three finishes at the NCAA Championships. She also helped the United States win a gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2003 Pan American Games.
But after finishing college and narrowly missing the 2004 Athens Olympics, Moore lost her motivation to continue training. It wasn’t until meeting paralympian April Holmes—a sprinter who lost her left leg below the knee in a train accident—that Moore realized she needed to get back to running. She managed to claw her way back to the top of the sport, and competed in the 100m at the Olympic Trials last week. She won’t be heading to London, but her story still inspires us. Watch the video below to learn how Moore stayed in elite-level shape during her time off the track.
