As Hurricane Sandy barrels toward the East Coast, you'll probably have to abandon your normal diet and fitness routine for the next couple days. Before you park your rear on your recliner, though, read on for ways you can outsmart Sandy and stay healthy even when you're stuck inside.

Do exercise. Right now, it may seem kind of fun to be hanging out in your pajamas, unable to leave your house. Twelve hours from now, however, you might be feeling a little restless. Get off the couch and do this living room workout. (You won’t regret it!)

Don’t woof down all your nonperishable foods before you even lose power. If you’re like me, you’re already eyeing the granola bars, rainbow trail mix, and Pirate’s Booty you bought yesterday. Remember: processed goods are rarely healthy, even when there’s a hurricane coming.

Do save the pantry items until you really need them. Instead, satisfy your hunger by finishing your milk, yogurt, fresh produce, and other items that will spoil if your electricity goes out.

Don’t forget to fill up extra water bottles. Experts recommend preparing one gallon per person per day for three days. (Related: 12 Ways to Make Water Less Boring)

Do scrub your bathroom floor, dust your baseboards, organize your closet, or tackle any other household project you’ve been putting off. You’ll burn over 200 calories an hour.

Don’t get too close to your windows, though. Better to be safe than sorry.

Do have a glass of red wine tonight. In moderation, it’s good for your heart. Plus, it may help you relax.
