Can I get a free guest pass to try out the gym first?
Most quality gyms will offer a 3-day guest pass at minimum, with 1 week being the standard. “If a gym doesn’t let you try it out first that’s absolutely a red flag,” says Lynn Cunningham, Regional Director of Operations at Crunch Fitness. “It gives the impression that they’re hiding something.”
Any attempt to steer you away from touring or test-driving a gym during peak hours is another red flag. Watch out for excuses like, We only give tours during this time. Or, We want you to train with this person, but she’s only available at this time. “You should be able to use the club at the time you’ll regularly work out to get a sense of what it’s actually like,” says Coopersmith. “If you have to come during prime time you need to know what you’re dealing with.”
