What does a basic membership include?
It’s the simplest question and the most likely to be glossed over amidst a chaotic discussion about payment plans and steam room hours. Read the fine print and find out exactly what your money will get you. Be careful not to assume that you’ll have full reign over all of the gym’s locations or equipment offerings. Some gyms reserve special equipment like resistance bands and Valslides for personal training clients. Also check whether every group fitness class is available to you once you sign up. Often gyms offer a la carte or fee-based classes in addition to their regular schedule. Some popular classes included in your membership may even require a reservation or adding your name to a wait list. If your main reason for signing up is 6:30 A.M. spinning—make sure it’s actually included for the price you expect to pay.
