As silly as it sounds, your best friend may be one of your best assets. In a survey conducted by Tupperware, 85% of respondents—women ages 18 and older—said that in the long run, a supportive network of female friends was more likely to boost body confidence than having an attractive appearance.
“Being social means people have the opportunity to find out who you are and like who you are,” says Sokol. “And positive feedback grows positive views of ourselves. If you’re not social, then your entire view of yourself is based on your own perception—and our perceptions can paint some ugly pictures.”
If your bonding time occurs over cocktails, you may feel even more appealing. In a study of 1,000 Australians ages 20 to 69, 33% of the adults felt more attractive after a few drinks and almost a quarter believed that others viewed them as better looking, too.
