Guiding Philosophy
Ravikumar’s credentials are two-fold. She teaches yoga and has also been a DJ in the Boston area for over 10 years. “Putting together a playlist for yoga can be a bit of a challenge,” she says. “I know what people like and feel them out when they walk in the room. I may put together an amazing playlist and not use it because the energy just doesn't fit.” She suggests starting slow—using traditional yoga songs, ocean music or tunes by the likes of Phil Collins—and then gradually adding louder, more fun music toward the middle and end. “
Top Picks
To build momentum: “Say Hey!” by Michael Franti, “The Dog Days Are Over” by Florence & The Machine, and “Without You” by Usher and David Guetta.”
For savasana: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, and “Gayatri Mantra” by Namaste.
Additional favorites: Ravikumar believes ab work requires lively music from artists such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga. “The louder the music, the more push we give ourselves.”
