Not a day that goes by that we don’t hear some report about how America is doomed to be a nation of lazy, overfed people who can’t tell the difference between a pine nut and a pineapple. But if you ask us, we’re not totally convinced that all is lost. For one thing, a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that childhood obesity may have hit a plateau for the first time in 20 years, and a 2010 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine study found indications that the prevalence of childhood obesity has declined by 4%. In fact, there are plenty of signs to believe we’re getting our nation’s health back on track. Here are six recent trends that are sure to improve our well-being—if they haven’t already.
