Like fat, fiber will keep you feeling full longer, and studies show that if you eat more, you're more likely to be slim. In a study published in 2009 in the journal Appetite, people who ate an apple before lunch took in 15% fewer calories during the meal than those who ate applesauce or drank apple juice, suggesting the fiber in the whole apple was more filling. And researchers at Bastyr University in Seattle found that women who consumed more than 14 g of fiber a day tended not to be overweight, while those who ate less were more likely to be overweight.
