Menu Planning Made Easier
Take-out dinners happen when menu plans go awry. A missed ingredient or no time to get to the supermarket and suddenly you’re eating out of a box using chopsticks. Set yourself up for success by planning meals and compiling the grocery list before the weekend hits, says Bazilian. “You just get more and more exhausted as the week goes on, and once Saturday and Sunday roll around, you want to relax. There’s no way that menu planning and shopping can realistically happen.” Bazilian suggests writing your list on Thursday before the weekend mind-set kicks in completely. “You’ll be more likely to do the shopping because the mentally exhausting part is taken care of.”
Want to make compiling a grocery list even easier? Hold on to your receipts. “It can be overwhelming to sit and stare at a blank sheet of paper,” says Rigsby. “I just pull out my past grocery receipts and write down what I actually ended up using.” It’s also an easy way to flag a previous week’s unhealthy impulse buys and set a goal to steer clear of those items this week, says Rigsby.
