The Easily Embarrassed
Because socialization is one of the most motivating forces in weight loss, people who do not like to be publicly embarrassed in front of their peers are well suited for success, says Core, who has conducted wellness challenges at companies like Gillette, Intel, Ernst & Young, and Rubbermaid.
In Core's programs, where teams of employees are pitted against one another for a dose of healthy workplace competition, participants are asked to fill out daily logs, tracking water intake, fruit and vegetable consumption, and exercise. “If they don’t fill them out, they are subjected to public embarrassment,” says Core, explaining that big red X’s are placed on the office doors of those who did not meet certain goals or fail to use the tracking system.
At Gillette, where Core led his first corporate wellness challenge, only one man failed to keep up with his log. “His embarrassment was so great, he got on the ball and won the program 4 years in a row,” Core says.
Even though they look silly, these exercises have some don’t-miss body benefits.
