Get Muddy
A tough-as-nails alternative to the triathlon, a mud run is a guaranteed way to get bruises, ruin your clothes, and put weeks of endurance training to the test. These races employ core survival instincts and weed out the weak, says Will Dean, founder and CEO of Tough Mudder, a 10-mile dash through mud, flames, freezing cold water, and barbed wire on a course designed by British Special Forces. “Those who succeed will earn a finish-line beer and be safe in the knowledge that they would've come out on top in Darwin's natural selection.”
To find an upcoming race in your city, check out Warrior Dash, the Original Mud Run, Down & Dirty Mud Runs, the Camp Pendleton World Famous Mud Run, and the USMC Mud Run.
