Miami Marathon, Miami, Florida-January 29, 2012
Distances: Marathon, half-marathon, 5-K
Run by day, party by night. If you're headed to Miami and South Beach for a race, don't forget your dancing shoes, beach towel, and bikini. The epicenter of nightlife on Florida's southeastern shoreline is also part of the course for one of the best-and flattest-marathons and halves every calendar year. Along with Big Sur and Maui, Miami is a contender for most miles by the water in our great waterfront eight. The race begins on Biscayne Boulevard and heads immediately for the ocean. Runners cross over the MacArthur Causeway and Biscayne Bay on the way to South Beach. After a brief tour of SoBe's infamous Ocean Drive, the course heads back toward the city but never strays far from the water as runners navigate down the coast to Coconut Grove and then back up via Hobie Island State Park and Bayshore Drive. According to organizers, race-day weather is normally perfect for running-think Florida in January. And a multitude of raucous fans will help get you to the finish.
